Find and reuse your recordings

Where your screen recordings and uploaded videos live, how to find one on the Recordings page or in the Compose library, how to make another video from it, who can see it, and when unused recordings are deleted automatically.

Updated 8 min read

Screen recordings and uploaded videos you add to Clevera are kept in your workspace while you use them, so you can make more than one thing from the same footage: a how-to video today, an article next week. This article covers where recordings live, how to find one, how to use it again, and when Clevera deletes recordings nobody uses.

Recordings and videos

A recording is your raw footage: what the desktop app captured, a video file you uploaded, or a take that Record with AI filmed for you. A video (or article, or social clip) is what Clevera makes from it.

  • One recording can feed any number of videos. Making a new one never changes the recording or the videos you already made.
  • Editing a video never changes its recording either.
  • Recordings themselves don't use credits. Making something from one costs the same as any other generation. See See what each kind of video costs.

Where recordings come from

Source How it arrives Shown as
Desktop app (Mac or Windows) Uploads while you record; opens Create when it's done. Up to 60 minutes. See Find your recording after it uploads. Recorded via macOS app / Recorded via Windows app, or macOS / Windows in filters
Upload + → Upload a video in Compose. An .mp4 file up to 250 MB. The file name, or Upload in filters
Record with AI The AI films your site or app in a cloud browser. See Let the AI record your product with Record with AI. Recorded for you in an AI browser, or AI browser in filters

Processing

After a recording arrives, Clevera processes it: it prepares the video for smooth editing, makes a thumbnail, extracts the audio and, for desktop recordings, builds the cursor track it uses for zooms. This usually takes a few minutes, longer for long recordings.

Status What it means
Processing Not ready yet. You can already pick a video type and write the brief; the recording is ready by the time you generate.
Ready Listed on the Recordings page and in the library.
Failed "This recording couldn't be processed. You can still make something without it." Record again or upload the video instead.

Recordings only appear on the Recordings page and in the library once they're ready.

The Recordings page

The Recordings page has no sidebar row. Press ⌘K (or Ctrl+K) and type "Recordings". See Search everything with ⌘K.

It lists the recordings you added to this workspace, newest first, 20 per page, with the total count above the grid. Each card shows the thumbnail, the length, who recorded it, its source, the date ("Recorded Oct 12, 2026" or "Uploaded Oct 12, 2026") and its collection, if any.

The page has no search box of its own. The search icon at the top right (Search everywhere) opens the same search as ⌘K, which finds videos, articles, collections and pages but doesn't list recordings one by one. To find a recording by name, use Choose from library in Compose (see below).

Sort changes the order:

Sort by Order
Date created Newest first or Oldest first
Duration Longest first or Shortest first

Watch a recording

Click a card, or its Watch button, to play the recording. The panel beside the player lists:

  • Duration, Dimensions, Source, Created, Owner and Collection
  • Audio, Cursor data and Camera: Yes or No. Cursor data is what automatic zooms follow, so an upload shows No.
  • Chapters, when the recording has them

The address bar keeps the recording open (?watch=…), so a refresh lands on the same recording. Click Back to recordings to close it.

Make another video from a recording

  1. Open Create

Click Create on Home or Content and pick the video type. See Pick a video type in the Create gallery.

  2. Choose from library

In Compose, click + and choose Choose from library ("Pick a video you've already recorded or uploaded.").

  3. Find the recording

The Library opens with every ready recording in the workspace. Narrow it down:

    • Search by name matches a Record with AI take's name or an uploaded file's name. Desktop recordings are named by their date, such as "Recording — Oct 12, 2026", so sort or filter to find those.
    • Sort: Newest first, Oldest first, Name (A–Z) or Longest first.
    • Filter by source: All sources, macOS, Windows, Upload ("Uploaded from your computer") or AI browser ("Recorded for you by AI").
  4. Add it

Click a recording to preview it, then Use this file. It's added to your materials. Write the brief and generate as usual.

How many recordings one video can use depends on the type: up to 3 for a how-to video or product demo, 1 for Polish or an article. See Add materials: recordings, footage, pictures, PDFs and links.

Who can see a recording

Where Who sees what
Recordings page Only your own recordings in this workspace. Owners and admins see only theirs here too.
Library in Compose Every ready recording in the workspace, from every member. Anyone in the workspace can use it in a video.

A recording's collection is shown on its card only if you can open that collection. Recordings stay in the workspace they were recorded or uploaded into. If one is missing, check that you're in the right workspace: open the workspace menu and choose Switch workspace.

When recordings are deleted

You can't delete a recording yourself: the Recordings page has no delete button. Instead, Clevera deletes recordings that nothing uses any more. A recording is deleted for good when all of these are true:

Condition In plain words
No video uses it No video, clip or article outside the trash uses it. A video uses a recording when it's the video's recording, an extra recording in a how-to video or product demo, a Record with AI take filmed for that video, footage in a social clip's materials, or footage added to the video in the editor. A video in the trash doesn't count.
15 days since its last use At least 15 days have passed since a video last used it (for example since that video went to the trash), or, if nothing was ever made from it, since it was added.
No open setup chat holds it It isn't picked as a material in a setup chat that's still open.

Only these uses count. Other videos being made or edited in the workspace don't keep a recording.

The cleanup runs once a day. A deleted recording can't be restored, and it no longer appears on the Recordings page or in the library. A recording that a video still uses is never deleted, so your videos keep their footage for as long as they exist. The trash keeps a deleted video for 7 days, less than the 15 days, so a video you restore from the trash still has its recording.

Troubleshooting

Problem What to do
A new recording isn't listed It's still processing. Give it a few minutes and refresh.
"This recording couldn't be processed." Record again, or upload the video file instead.
"The video must be 250 MB or smaller." Trim or compress the file, or record it with the desktop app (up to 5 GB per file).
I can't search the Recordings page It has no search box. Sort by date or length, or search by name in Choose from library in Compose.
A teammate's recording isn't on Recordings That page shows only your own. Use Choose from library in Compose, which lists everyone's.
An older recording is gone No video used it for 15 days, so it was deleted automatically. See When recordings are deleted.
A recording is missing everywhere Check you're in the workspace you recorded into. See My recording didn't upload.
